Portrush Air Show was held over the weekend 5-6 September 2015. The main attractions were the Red Arrows (always well received) and a Vulcan Bomber from the cold war era. Portrush Air Show
You don’t see an Air show for months and then two come along in no time. At the end of August the Northern Ireland International Airshow is held at Portrush. For those that don’t know Ireland very well Portrush is a seaside resort with loads of B & B’s and amusements, that could probably once have been classed as a mini Blackpool.
I’m usually there at least twice a year for the Northwest 200 motorcycle races in May and the Airshow in August/September. Both events are more than impressive but this post is about the airshow.
The show is now in its 12th year and gets better and better. It is usually able to get the Red Arrows and their display is so popular and spectacular that they guarantee success. They were due to appear at 6pm and from around 5.30 the crowd noticeably started to increase in anticipation of their arrival over the town.
Less glamourous but intriguing all the same is the RotorSport Calidus. I always thought of autogyros as being open to the air and not for cold weather but this model has a canopy and you can even have a heater as an option.
I’m in awe at the courage of wingwalkers but it’s not how I would choose to spend a Saturday.
