Collecting Oil Rigs

Borgny and Byford Dolphin

On my way home through Belfast yesterday evening I took a drive through Titanic Quarter just to see what was going on. Sometimes on Sundays they’re finalising preparations for events happening over the next few days so its sometimes worth a short detour to see. What I didn’t expect to see were two oil rigs berthed so close together. I knew one had been there for some time undergoing a refit and another was on the way but the two of them in such close proximity I did not expect.

There were a number of people on foot and in cars nearby enjoying the sight and I joined in. They make an impressive sight and I suppose few people see oil rigs close up like this although lately they’re becoming part of the Belfast skyline.

Christmas Eve

Well it’s now Christmas Eve. The presents have been bought, the turkey is being prepared and I’ve realised that it’s over two weeks since my last post.

On what is becoming known as Panic Saturday I hoped to get some photographs of shoppers in Belfast. Panic Saturday is apparently the Saturday before Christmas when some retailers realise they haven’t sold as much as they would have liked and drop some prices while some shoppers realise that they don’t have much time left and rush to buy last minute presents. In theory it makes for a busy day except where I went it wasn’t. Areas would seem busy from a distance, with people milling around, but when I got there they just weren’t. Maybe my timing was bad or else people in Belfast are becoming adept at avoiding cameras!

Have a Merry Christmas.

Belfast Christmas Market

The Christmas Market is set up in the grounds of the City Hall each year and runs from early November until a few days before Christmas. Ever popular, at the busiest times this year there has been a queuing system introduced to prevent over crowding. The main attractions are probably the food stalls that offer a wide range of cuisine although with the beer tents that are always busy, clothing stalls and a Santa’s Grotto for the kids, there’s something for everyone. This and that

Duke of York

Things are naturally slow at this time of year but even allowing for this I haven’t been anywhere near as productive as I’d like. I’ve been processing some images from previous months that I just hadn’t got around to doing – it’s necessary but I’d rather be taking photographs than sitting at a computer. I’ve also been reading up on Photoshop – the more I study and use this software the more I realise how much I don’t know. Continue reading “This and that”

November

Waring Street, Belfast

Short days and rain are playing havoc with my plans of late. It’s November, so to be expected, but I always hope for some nice blue skies at some point and it just hasn’t been happening. I’m hoping the month will end better than it has started.

The Christmas market has arrived at Belfast City Hall so I’ll visit in the next few days for photographs and food. Continue reading “November”
