It doesn’t seem to matter what time I go to Downpatrick, the traffic is always blocked up and there always seem to be roadworks, it’s just be one of those places. Having said this if I’m anywhere nearby I make a point of visiting Down Cathedral and/or Saul Church. They are both very interesting buildings to photograph and easy to get to – once you get through the traffic that is.
Down Cathedral dates from 1124 and St. Patrick is believed to be buried in the grounds.

This one of those images that begs to be produced in black and white. It was processed using Adobe Lightroom and Topaz Black and White effects. Its not very apparent here because of the size but when viewed full size the church in the background can be seen to be out of focus while the cross is sharp giving depth to the image.
These images were taken on 4 April 2013. The flowers and coins have been left on 17 March, St Patrick’s Day.
